Comcast Brings High-Speed Internet and Lift Zone to McDuffie County, Celebrates with Laptop Giveaway and Block Party

Multi-Million Dollar Broadband Expansion Brings Local Connectivity, New Services and Community Support to McDuffie County

MCDUFFIE COUNTY, Ga., Aug. 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast has completed a broadband expansion project in McDuffie County, Georgia, bringing reliable, high-speed Internet, mobile and security services from Xfinity and Comcast Business to residents and businesses for the first time. 

This investment represents Comcast's ongoing commitment to closing the digital divide in communities across the Southeast – bringing more residents and businesses the tools they need to thrive in today's digital world.

To mark the occasion, Comcast hosted a celebration that included a surprise laptop giveaway, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a community block party. 47 dual enrollment junior and senior students at Thomson High School received free laptops, helping ensure more young people in McDuffie County have the digital tools they need to succeed in school and beyond.

The laptop giveaway is part of Project UP, the company's $1 billion commitment to create digital opportunity through programs and community partnerships that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers and creators.

Comcast also officially activated the Lift Zone at the McDuffie County Boys & Girls Club – reaffirming its commitment to supporting students and families with free, high-speed WiFi and digital resources. While the Club has previously served as a Lift Zone, this relaunch marks a renewed focus on digital access and impact. To support the initiative, Comcast donated a $10,000 grant to the Club to enhance technology resources and programming within the space.

The celebration wrapped up with a community block party at the Club, featuring a DJ, face painting, a 360-photo booth, and a food truck. Attendees had the opportunity to connect with Xfinity and Internet Essentials representatives to learn more about the new services.
