    AKRON, Ohio, Aug. 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Staying cool during Ohio's hot summer months shouldn't cause financial stress. That's why Ohio Edison, The Illuminating Company and Toledo Edison, subsidiaries of FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE:FE), are encouraging residential customers to take advantage of the Home Energy Assistance (HEAP) Summer Crisis Program, available for a limited time.

    What the HEAP Summer Crisis Program Offers

    Now through September 30, eligible customers can get up to $500 in one-time assistance for:

    • Paying electric bills
    • Repairing central air conditioning
    • Purchasing air conditioning unit and/or fans

    More Ways to Get Help All Year Long

    In addition to the HEAP Summer Crisis Program, FirstEnergy's Ohio electric companies offer several year-round assistance programs:  

    • Percentage of Income Payment Plan Plus (PIPP Plus): Allows customers to pay a percentage of their household income toward their monthly electric bill.
    • Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP): Get cash grants for home heating bills and emergencies.
    • Project REACH: For Ohio Edison residential customers facing a recent financial hardship.
    • Community Outreach Opportunity Program (CO-OP): For Illuminating Co. residential customers needing temporary support.
    • Ohio Fuel Fund: Provides Illuminating Co. residential customers with a cash grant to help pay their electric bills.
    • Neighbors Helping Neighbors: For Toledo Edison residential customers experiencing financial challenges.
