Rather than base its annual rankings on small statistical samplings, reviews from professional critics, or box-office performance, IMDb determines its definitive year-end lists using data from IMDbPro MOVIEmeter and STARmeter rankings, which are based on the actual page views of the more than 250 million monthly visitors to IMDb.

Superman tops the list of most popular movies, with The White Lotus as the top show. The year's most popular movies showcase a mix of franchise continuations (Jurassic World: Rebirth at No. 5, Happy Gilmore 2 at No. 7, and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning at No. 9) and standout original films (Weapons at No. 2, Sinners at No. 3, One Battle After Another at No. 4, Frankenstein at No. 6, and F1: The Movie at No. 10). Warner Bros. films dominate the list, charting in the top 4 spots. Debut seasons of streaming series were popular this year, with Dexter: Resurrection at No. 6 and Dept. Q at No. 8. Meanwhile, returning shows claim the top spots with The Last of Us at No. 2 and Severance at No. 3.
The 2025 list of most popular stars features Isabela Merced in the top position, with Aimee Lou Wood taking the second spot and ranking as the year's No. 1 Breakout star. Matthew Goode (No. 3 overall star, and No. 2 Breakout star), Tom Cruise (No. 4), and Sydney Sweeney (No. 5) round out the top five. Several cast members from The White Lotus chart in the Top 100 this year, reflecting the show's position as 2025's most popular series. Other notable Breakout stars include Britt Lower (No. 3), Sydney Chandler (No. 4), Stephen Graham (No. 5), and Mae Martin (No. 6).
