Square's new flagship kiosk uses an agentic voice layer that knows a seller's menu to help quick-service restaurants keep lines moving at peak times, grow order values, and free up staff for hospitality

Today, Square unveiled Square Kiosk, the company's new flagship, intelligent self-service kiosk. Combining AI-powered software, voice capabilities, and a large touch display with premium hardware, Square Kiosk gives customers an experience that feels less like self-ordering and more like service – while helping QSR operators better manage peak-rush pressure, labor constraints, and growing demand for faster, more personalized hospitality. Alongside new hardware, Square is also rolling out new capabilities that make it easier for large QSR franchises to manage operations across their entire network of locations.

Square Kiosk

An Innovative Kiosk That Listens and Responds

Underpinning the new Square Kiosk is an agentic, conversational voice layer that fully understands a seller’s menu and listens and responds in real time, enabling customers to order the way they'd naturally talk to staff: asking questions about the menu, seeking suggestions and popular options, requesting modifications, and working through substitutions. For operators, this intelligence translates into faster-moving lines, contextual upsells, and reduced strain on front-of-house staff.

Designed to engage guests as they approach, Square Kiosk features:

An agentic foundation running through the hardware and software to power the ordering experience for guests and operational efficiency for operators
A large, 21.5" touchscreen display that attracts guests’ attention and supports rich menus and item imagery while providing customers clear information about their orders, along with presence detection that welcomes diners as they walk up to the device
Personalized check-in that gives guests the option to connect to their Neighborhoods profile or Square Loyalty account to earn and redeem rewards
Fully integrated payments and barcode scanner for tap and dip transactions, as well as gift card scanning without requiring a sidecar device or peripheral accessories — with packaged goods scanning coming soon

Together, these capabilities help operators strike a balance between customer experience and speed, with guests able to move fluidly between voice and touch throughout the order.

Intelligence for Operators’ Toughest Challenges

Square Kiosk was built to address the challenges that have put high-volume QSR operators under increasing strain: persistent staffing challenges that require restaurants to do more with less; mounting pressure to keep lines moving during peak rushes without sacrificing guest experience; and thinning margins that make it even more important to maximize the value of every order.

"We’ve used other kiosks before that were too bulky for our space and couldn’t handle a menu as extensive as ours, but Square Kiosk has exceeded our expectations," said Baltej Sra, CEO of Boba Nation Grand. "The design complements our stores and aesthetic, and customers of all ages readily and easily engage with it. We’ve also seen the AI and voice component adding real value - I recently saw a customer use the voice capability to very quickly and easily find a particular item in our menu. Given how well it has performed in test locations, we're planning to bring Square Kiosk to the rest of our locations this year."

Most existing self-service kiosks are only partial solutions, functioning as simple, touch-only digital menus that can take an order, but are unable to personalize an interaction, assist guests in finding items, or answer questions about the menu. For sellers, that gap can result in missed upsell opportunities, staff needing to step in when something goes wrong, and an impersonal self-service experience that can cost restaurants a return visit.

Square Kiosk closes that gap. The device combines agentic AI and voice capabilities to suggest items and add-ons based on real-time contextual information like what’s popular at that location, during that time of day, or as a common pairing with items already in the cart; address menu questions, whether a guest is asking about allergy information or browsing for vegetarian options; and surface upsells naturally within the order flow, the way an experienced staff member would. For operators managing tight margins, that means a self-service option that doesn't just move lines faster, but is designed to help grow average order value in the process – without asking guests to settle for a lesser experience.

"I was genuinely skeptical of kiosks, but now I want to place Square Kiosks throughout our national footprint," said Lawrence Kam, multi-unit franchise operator with L&L Hawaiian BBQ. "Customers notice and prefer to use it far more than I expected, and that allows my team to focus on the many other responsibilities they have without compromising the customer experience. Beyond the kiosks adding an experience my customers love and supporting our employees, the beauty of Square is that your whole tech stack can run on one system, reliably connected, which makes operating the business that much simpler and pain-free."

Building Solutions for the Modern QSR

Square Kiosk combines seventeen years of hardware design excellence and software innovation into a device built with the realities of QSR operators in mind. The new device also reflects Square's growing investment in quick-service restaurants and food & beverage sellers more broadly: earlier this year, the company introduced new drive-thru capabilities for QSR operators while also streamlining discovery and order growth for sellers through new integrations with Google Maps, ChatGPT, and Claude. Building on this commitment, Square is also rolling out its multi-account solution for QSR franchises, providing franchise operators with a new suite of tools that lets them easily manage menus, reporting, and gift cards while ensuring franchisees retain the level of autonomy and flexibility they need to manage their locations.

"Every device we build starts with the problems sellers are forced to navigate in their day-to-day, and then determining how hardware and software designed together can help operators overcome those challenges," said Thomas Templeton, Block's Global Hardware Lead. "Square Kiosk adds a third piece to the solution: intelligence. For QSR operators, who often have to do more with less, conversational AI does what existing self-ordering solutions can’t. Whether answering menu questions or making informed recommendations, Square Kiosk raises the bar on what guests can expect from self-service while giving staff the time back to focus on hospitality and the tasks that matter the most."

Square Kiosk is available beginning today for $1,999 with a Square Plus or Premium subscription¹, plus a $99 monthly software fee per device. To learn more about Square Kiosk and pricing, visit squareup.com/hardware/kiosk.
