Robert J. Collier Trophy-winning technology reaches a major milestone as availability continues to expand

OLATHE, Kan., Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Garmin (NYSE:GRMN) today announced that more than 2,500 aircraft are now equipped with Garmin Autoland, a major milestone achieved just over six years after the technology's initial certification. Now available on more than 15 aircraft models, including piston-powered aircraft and twin-engine jets, Autoland is bringing added peace of mind to a growing number of pilots and passengers across the aviation industry. Recipient of the prestigious Robert J. Collier Trophy and numerous other industry honors, Garmin Autoland is the world's first certified autonomous system that activates during an emergency to control and land an aircraft without human intervention.

"Surpassing 2,500 Autoland-equipped aircraft reflects the incredible adoption of a technology designed to provide pilots and passengers with added confidence when it matters most. From the first certification in 2020 to the expansion in the general aviation market and now into twin-engine jets, Garmin Autoland continues to demonstrate certified, real-world capability across a growing range of aircraft and flight decks."

– Phil Straub, Garmin Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Aviation

First certified in May 2020 on the Piper M600 SLS, Garmin Autoland has expanded across a diverse range of aircraft and can now be found on more than 15 certified models around the world. These include the Piper M600 SLS and M700 FURY; Cirrus Vision Jet G2, G2+ and G3, as well as the SR20 G7+, SR22 G7+ and SR22T G7+; Daher TBM 940, TBM 960 and TBM 980; HondaJet Elite II; select Beechcraft King Air 200, B200, 300 and 350 aircraft; Pilatus PC-12 PRO; and Epic E1000 AX.

In 2026 alone, Garmin Autoland received certifications on four additional aircraft models: the HondaJet Elite II, Embraer Phenom 300EV, Pilatus PC-12 PRO and Epic E1000 AX. The HondaJet Elite II and Phenom 300EV certifications mark the first availability of Garmin Autoland on twin-engine jet aircraft, extending the technology into a new segment of business aviation. Additionally, in 2027, Garmin Autoland certification is expected for Textron Aviation's Cessna Citation M2 Gen3, Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen3, Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 and the Beechcraft Denali.

Autoland availability has also expanded across Garmin integrated flight decks, including G1000^® NXi, G3000^® and G3000 PRIME. Of the more than 2,500 aircraft now flying with Autoland, nearly 250 were retrofitted after delivery, including eligible platforms that were initially delivered without the technology enabled as well as a full retrofit for King Air aircraft, giving new capabilities to an aircraft produced over 50 years ago.

Designed for an emergency situation, such as a pilot incapacitation, a passenger can activate Garmin Autoland to autonomously land the aircraft with a simple press of a dedicated button. Autoland can also activate automatically if the system detects no pilot interaction. Once activated, the system calculates a flight path to the most suitable airport, while avoiding terrain and adverse weather, initiates a stabilized approach to the runway and lands the aircraft – without pilot or passenger intervention. Garmin Autoland is designed to provide the pilot, passenger, and air traffic control (ATC) with confidence and security that the aircraft will autonomously aviate, navigate, and communicate en route to a safe destination during one of the most dire situations – an inflight emergency in which the pilot is unable to perform their normal duties as pilot in command.

Garmin continues to work with aircraft manufacturers and operators to bring Autoland to additional aircraft, building on a proven record of certified, real-world capability and expanding access to the safety-enhancing technology across the aviation industry.
