The completed solar-plus-storage system is designed to offset 100 percent of the Main Office's annual electricity usage while enhancing resilience for critical wastewater operations.

Ameresco, Inc., (NYSE:AMRC), a leading energy infrastructure company delivering integrated solutions to create reliable power and modernize infrastructure, today celebrated the completion of a solar-plus-storage project at the main office of the Roseburg Urban Sanitary Authority (RUSA), joined by RUSA Staff, RUSA leadership, the Oregon Department of Energy, Energy Trust of Oregon, and elected officials. The $1M project is the beginning of a multi-phase transformative energy program aimed at enhancing the resilience, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness of RUSA’s key facilities, which include its Main Office, wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), and natural treatment system (NTS).

Representatives from Ameresco, RUSA, and project stakeholders commemorate the successful completion of the project during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrating a milestone that will deliver lasting benefits to the community.

The project includes a 39.4-kWDC solar photovoltaic system designed to generate approximately 51,580 kWh annually and offset 100 percent of the electricity used at RUSA's Main Office. The solar array is paired with an 184-kWh battery energy storage system that helps ensure critical administrative and operational functions remain available during power disruptions.

The project was made possible through a combination of funding sources, including an $870,870 grant from the Oregon Department of Energy's Community Renewable Energy Program (C-REP), as well as support from the Energy Trust of Oregon.

The broader RUSA energy initiative has received significant regional recognition, including two 2026 Best of the Best Awards from the Oregon Association of Clean Water Agencies (ORACWA) and the 2026 Excellence in Resource Recovery & Sustainability Award from the Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association (PNCWA).

In addition to enhancing energy efficiency and system reliability, this initiative plays a vital role in strengthening the local economy by generating employment opportunities and actively engaging businesses from underrepresented communities.

"Partnering with Ameresco allows us to modernize our facilities, safeguarding the long-term well-being of our community as a result," said Jim Baird, General Manager of RUSA. "Through smarter energy use and resilient infrastructure investments, we’re advancing reliable wastewater management while ensuring continued service for our customers in both everyday operations and critical situations."

The second and third projects will see the installation of a 900-kW ground-mounted solar PV system at the WWTP and a 400-kW floating solar PV system at the NTS. Construction on these projects is anticipated to begin Fall 2026.

"Operating a wastewater treatment facility requires substantial energy consumption, which is why RUSA’s initiative and others like it are so important to build a more efficient energy future," said Louis Maltezos, Co-President of Ameresco. "By working together, we’re showing how public organizations can adopt forward-looking strategies that cut emissions, lower costs, and strengthen the quality of life for the communities they serve."

Ameresco and RUSA's collaboration not only strengthens local operations but also sets a powerful example of how public agencies can lead in sustainability and energy innovation. By deploying advanced solar and storage systems at critical facilities, this initiative demonstrates how strategic infrastructure upgrades can improve reliability, reduce operational costs, and support long-term community resilience.
