Event categories: how Quantisnow labels every news item
Every category label Quantisnow assigns to news items, from Earnings and Leadership Update to analyst ratings and SEC forms, plus category pages at /categories/<slug>.
Key takeaways
- Every Quantisnow item carries one category, such as Earnings, Leadership Update, Analyst Upgrade or SEC Form 8-K.
- Analyst rating items are split into five categories: Upgrade, Downgrade, Coverage Initiated, Coverage Resumed and Coverage Reiterated.
- SEC filings are categorized by form type, including 8-K, 10-K, 10-Q, S-1, Form 4, 13D, 13G and DEF 14A.
- 22 category pages live at /categories/<slug>, and each is also available per company at /company/<TICKER>/<slug>.
Every item on the Quantisnow wire gets a category that describes what kind of event it is: an earnings release, an executive change, an analyst downgrade, a specific SEC form and so on. Categories power the feeds, the filters, Insights search and the category pages, so knowing them makes the whole site easier to navigate.

How to see one category for one company
Every category page also exists per ticker. Add the category slug to a company URL:
- Start from the company page, for example /company/AAPL.
- Add the category slug: /company/AAPL/8-k for Apple's 8-K filings, or /company/AAPL/analyst-upgrades for its upgrades.
See Company pages for everything else on a company page.
Where else categories are used
- Feed filters: feeds that span several categories, such as SEC Filings or Insider Trading, let you pick categories under Filters. See Feed filters.
- Insights search: filter past news by category at /insights. See Insights search.
- Alerts: alert rules use broader groups such as SEC filings and Analyst ratings. See Alerts.
FAQ
What category does an insider purchase get?
Insider purchases are labeled Insider Buy. You can watch them all at /categories/insider-buys or in the Insider Purchases feed at /news/insider-trading-purchases.
How do I see only 8-K filings?
Open /categories/8-k for 8-Ks from every company, or /company/<TICKER>/8-k for a single company. You can also pick SEC Form 8-K under Filters on the SEC Filings feed.
What is the difference between Coverage Initiated and Coverage Reiterated?
Coverage Initiated means a firm has started covering a stock for the first time. Coverage Reiterated means a firm that already covers the stock repeats its rating.
Can I get alerts for a single SEC form type?
Alert rules use broader groups, so the SEC filings toggle covers SEC filings for that ticker rather than one form. To watch one form type, use its category page or the per-ticker category URL.
