Feed filters: narrow the live feed by company, sector and category
Filter the Quantisnow live feed: include or exclude companies, pick sectors and industries, and choose categories on multi-category feeds. Saved per feed in your browser.
Key takeaways
- The Filters button on every feed lets you filter by Companies, Sectors, Industries and, on multi-category feeds, Categories.
- The Companies filter has an Include mode that shows only the chosen companies and an Exclude mode that hides them.
- Filters are saved per feed in your browser, so each feed keeps its own settings on that device.
- The live feed has no keyword filter; use Insights search at /insights to search titles and summaries.
Feed filters let you cut a busy feed down to the companies and parts of the market you care about. Open Filters above any feed to choose companies to include or exclude, sectors, industries and, on feeds that mix several event types, categories. Filters work on every plan.
Filter options
| Filter | What it does | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| Companies | Show only, or hide, items for the companies you add | Every feed |
| Sectors | Show only items from the selected sectors | Every feed |
| Industries | Show only items from the selected industries | Every feed |
| Categories | Show only the selected event categories | Feeds that cover more than one category |
Feeds with a Categories filter include Insider Trading, SEC Filings, Financials and Large Ownership Changes. For example, on /news/sec you can keep only SEC Form 8-K and SEC Form 10-Q. Category names are listed in Event categories.
How to filter a feed by company
- Open a feed, for example /news.
- Click Filters. The panel opens above the feed.
- Under Companies, choose Include or Exclude.
- Type in the Filter by ticker or name… box and pick a company. It appears as a chip.
- Add more companies the same way. Remove one with the x on its chip.
Use Include to build a quick watchlist view of a handful of tickers. Use Exclude to mute companies that flood the feed with routine releases.
How to filter by sector or industry
- Click Filters.
- Under Sectors, type in Filter by sector… and pick one or more sectors.
- Under Industries, type in Filter by industry… and pick one or more industries.
Sector and industry filters are handy for themes, for example only Health Care on the FDA feed. See sectors and industries for how companies are classified.
How to filter by category
- Open a multi-category feed such as /news/insider-trading or /news/sec.
- Click Filters.
- Under Categories, click the categories you want to keep. Click again to turn one off.
For example, on Insider Trading select only SEC Form 4 and Insider Buy to skip Forms 3 and 5. Read Form 4 explained for what each insider form means.
How to clear filters
The Filters button shows a count of active filters. Click Clear next to it to remove them all at once.
How filters are saved
- Filters are saved per feed. Your filters on SEC Filings do not affect Press Releases.
- They are stored in your browser, not your account. They stay when you reload or come back later on the same browser, but do not follow you to another device or browser, and clearing site data removes them.
- Combined feeds such as /news?feeds=sec,fda support Companies, Sectors and Industries, but not Categories.
Searching by keyword
The live feed has no keyword filter. To find items that mention a word such as "merger" or "guidance", use Insights search at /insights, which searches titles and summaries and has the same company, sector and industry filters plus date ranges.
Filters versus followed tickers
Filters change what you see on a feed in this browser. Following tickers saves a watchlist to your account and drives Alerts. Many people use both: follow their core tickers for alerts, and use filters to watch a sector on the live feed.
FAQ
Do feed filters require Plus?
No. Feed filters work on every plan, including signed out. Plus changes how fast the feed updates, not which filters you can use.
Why do my filters disappear on my phone?
Filters are saved in the browser you set them in, per feed. They do not sync across devices, so set them again on each browser you use.
Can I hide a company from the feed?
Yes. Open Filters, switch Companies to Exclude, and add the company. Its items stop appearing on that feed.
Can I filter the live feed by keyword?
No. The live feed has no keyword filter. Use Insights search at /insights to search titles and summaries by keyword.
Why is there no Categories filter on some feeds?
The Categories filter only appears on feeds that cover more than one category, such as SEC Filings or Insider Trading, and not on combined feeds.
