Market data hub: free monthly datasets, CSV and JSON downloads

How the Quantisnow /data hub works: the seven monthly datasets, monthly archive pages, CSV, JSON and SVG chart downloads, embedding a chart, and the CC BY 4.0 license.

Updated 5 min read

Key takeaways

  • The Quantisnow data hub at /data publishes seven free monthly datasets built from Quantisnow's real-time wire archive, from insider buying and analyst ratings to SEC filings and FINRA short volume.
  • Each dataset can be downloaded as CSV at /data/<dataset>.csv and as JSON at /data/<dataset>.json, and a chart of the last 24 months is available as an SVG image at /data/<dataset>.svg.
  • Every month has its own archive page at /data/<dataset>/<yyyy-mm>, and figures are recomputed daily, with the current month marked as month to date.
  • The data is free to reuse under the CC BY 4.0 license with attribution to Quantisnow and a link to the dataset page.

The data hub at /data publishes free, citeable monthly statistics computed from every SEC filing, analyst rating, insider trade, press release and FINRA short volume file Quantisnow has captured. Each dataset has a headline figure, a chart, a methodology, a monthly archive and free CSV, JSON and SVG downloads. No account is needed.

Months before a dataset's start date are not computed, because source coverage before then is incomplete.

What a dataset page shows

Each dataset page, for example /data/insider-buying, has:

  1. Headline: one sentence on the latest closed month, compared with the month before.
  2. Chart: the last 36 months as bars. The current month is drawn as month to date.
  3. At a glance: every metric for the latest closed month with its change from the previous month.
  4. Breakdown table: for example the companies with the largest insider purchases, upgrades and downgrades by sector, or filings by form type.
  5. Monthly history: one row per month, each linking to its archive page.
  6. Methodology: exactly what is counted and what is left out.
  7. Download and cite: CSV, JSON and SVG links, a ready-made citation and an embed snippet.

The headline month is the latest closed month without a known data gap. Months with a known ingest gap, such as April 2026 and October 2026 for insider purchases, carry a note and are never used as the headline month or as its comparison.

Monthly archive pages

Every stored month has its own page at /data//, for example /data/analyst-ratings/2026-09. It shows that month's headline, key figures and breakdown, with links to the previous and next month and to the full monthly history. A month that has not closed yet is labelled as month to date.

How often the data updates

Figures are recomputed once a day from the Quantisnow event database. Each run recomputes the current month and the previous month, so late filings and corrections are picked up after a month closes. The "Last updated" line under each dataset title shows when its numbers were last computed, in UTC.

Months are calendar months in UTC, bucketed by when Quantisnow first received each item.

Downloads

FormatURLContents
CSV/data/.csvOne row per month: month, month_to_date (true or false), then one column per metric key
JSON/data/.jsonName, description, license, citation, last update time, metric definitions, and every month with its values and breakdown rows
SVG chart/data/.svgA 720 by 340 bar chart of the last 24 months with a source line

For example, /data/insider-buying.csv downloads the full Insider Buying Index. The download URLs allow cross-origin requests, so a script or notebook can fetch them directly. The breakdown tables (top companies, sectors, form types) are only in the JSON file, not in the CSV.

Embedding a chart

Each dataset page has an Embed this chart box with an HTML snippet. It places the SVG chart in a figure that links back to the dataset page, with a caption naming the dataset and Quantisnow. Paste it into any page that accepts HTML. The image is served from /data/.svg, so the embedded chart stays current as new months are added.

License and citation

The datasets are free to reuse under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) license, with attribution to Quantisnow and a link to the dataset page. Each dataset page and each archive month offers a citation in APA style, in this form:

Quantisnow. (2026). Quantisnow Insider Buying Index [Data set]. Retrieved October 31, 2026, from https://quantisnow.com/data/insider-buying

The same citation text is included in the JSON download. For questions or custom cuts of the data, write to contact@quantisnow.com.

Reading the numbers

  • Insider purchase value counts only open-market purchases (Form 4 transaction code P). Grants, option exercises, tax withholding and gifts are excluded. See How to track insider buying and Form 4.
  • FINRA short sale volume is not short interest. Ratios around 40 to 50% are normal because market makers sell short while providing liquidity. See Short volume vs short interest.
  • News volume by sector counts an item once in each sector it touches, so sector counts can add up to more than the total.

For daily, per-company data rather than monthly totals, use the short volume screener, the top lists and company pages.

FAQ

Is Quantisnow market data free to use?

Yes. Every dataset on /data is free to view and download without an account, and it can be reused under CC BY 4.0 with attribution to Quantisnow and a link to the dataset page.

How do I download a dataset as CSV or JSON?

Add .csv or .json to the dataset URL, for example /data/insider-buying.csv or /data/insider-buying.json. Each dataset page also has Download CSV and JSON buttons.

How often is the data updated?

Once a day. Each daily run recomputes the current month (shown as month to date) and the previous month, so late filings are reflected after a month closes.

Can I embed a Quantisnow chart on my site?

Yes. Use the embed snippet on any dataset page, or link the SVG at /data/.svg. It shows the last 24 months and links back to the dataset page.

Why does a month show a data gap note?

A few months had an ingest interruption for one dataset, for example insider purchase tagging in April 2026 and October 2026. Those months stay visible with a note, but they are not used as the headline month or for month-over-month comparisons.
